What the swell looked like at creation
SE Papa Buoy

This swell was a 300 degree swell in the tail of the Aleutians. It mostly sat and span for 12-24 hours, then broke up. It was about 976 mBar, but had a very tight isobar gradient close to its center. Swell hit SF at 5 foot on the first day. SW winds came up and roughed up the sea surface for the rest. Second day was about 4 foot 12 sec. Swell 3, incase you are wondering, occurred in the same place and was a little smaller, about 2 days earlier. Its tail can be seen in these energy plots.
